Hot Topic 15 Fishery Biologist positions to support the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response

Responsibilities: IAP World Services is seeking 15 Fishery Biologist I positions at our NOAA/National Marine Fisheries Services location in Pascagoula, MS. These positions will provide support for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill recovery response by participating in surveys that are being conducted aboard NOAA ships, NOAA small boats and Government contracted commercial vessels and recreational boats to collect samples for use in evaluating seafood safety and to collect data to be used by Government in making decisions concerning Federal fishing closures. These positions will also provide support for marine mammal/sea turtle strandings.

Qualifications: Minimum of a B.S. degree in Biology or other natural science or at least 3 years experience in this field.
Must have cruise experience in participating in surveys. Must be proficient in the use of Gulf of Mexico Fish ID books and keys. For survey personnel, the ability to lift/carry in tandem 70 pound baskets of fish and work on an unstable platform in rough seas is required. Experience in taxonomic familiarity with larval fish of the Southeast United States, familiarity with finfish fauna or hardbottom habitats of the Southeast United States and the skill of interpreting morphology and behavior in visible images. All personnel shall be computer literate and experienced with common word processing, database, statistical, and graphics programs. All personnel shall possess a basic knowledge of photographic and/or videographic techniques.

This is for a 3 month period. 24 hour HazMat training is a plus but not required. 24 hour HazMat training will be provided if candidate has not completed.
